How To Thrift Online
Hi! Welcome back to my blog! Today is all about how to thrift online. I decided to write a blog post on ethical style today because it's such an important issue that needs to be addressed. So, instead of boring you with endless stats, I decided to talk about a solution which is: thrifting!
What Is Thrifting?
Simply put, thrifting means to go shopping at a thrift store (similar to a charity shop), online thrift store or garage sale where you'll find gently used items at discounted prices. Thrifted items have been loved by a previous owner, but are usually in good shape with enough life left to be useful to a new owner.
1. Find Good Online Thrift Stores
We believe in circular fashion. In quality clothing that can have three or more lives. In choosing clothing that’s unique, individual. This is our movement, standing against fast fashion and its effect on the world.
We believe that there is change coming in the fashion industry, that consumers are more concerned with where their clothes come from and the true cost of wearing something once.
Through teaching and the development of more conscious consumers, we believe wardrobes of the near future will be full of recycled and remade clothes & accessories. Stigma no more.
Circular fashion, not fast.
Designer. Preloved. Vintage. Streetwear. Sneakers. Whatever your style. Find it on Depop.
We believe every piece should tell a story. Since the 1970s, UO has been carefully curating vintage items based on quality and uniqueness. Today, our Urban Renewal team continues to hand-pick merchandise from around the world. From one of a kind items to reimagined vintage that's to "dye" for, each piece comes with its own history. Find the one that speaks to you.
If I were to thrift, I would use Depop because it's very easy to set up and has a wide range. So, below I have a quick tutorial video on how to use it ⬇️
2. Look For Inspiration
In order to shop successfully, you need to have inspiration and a rough idea of what you want. Often an easy app to use is Pinterest :
All you have to do on Pinterest is search for the type of outfits you are looking for, I searched soft girl outfits, and just scroll.
If you don't have Pinterest you can just go through the images on Google or a different social platform.
Also, don't forget to look through magazines and books.
Personally, whenever I look for outfit inspiration I look at what up and coming singers are wearing because I find their style is usually very unique and bold!
3. Make A List
For online shopping, I have a dedicated notebook which I fill with lists. You don't need a full notebook, but you will need a sheet of paper.
- First, I want you to write down a bullet point list of online thrift stores you will visit.
- Next, I want you to write a list of items you want vs Items you need (make sure to go through your wardrobe before writing this step).
- And finally, I want you to go through those 2 lists and narrow them down to 5 things only.
4. Start Shopping
Now you are ready to start shopping!
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed today's post!
